Texas State University- San Marcos

National Merit and Assured Scholarships

 

National Merit Finalists will receive an award in the amount of $10,000 per year for up to four years—that’s a $40,000 total value.  National Achievement Finalists and National Hispanic Scholars will receive a $2000 renewable award that is potentially an $8,000 total value.  The President’s Honor and Texas State Achievement Scholarships are assured to all admitted students who meet the criteria.  The President’s Honor Scholarship is a $5,000 award up to four years ($20,000 total value), while the Texas State Achievement Scholarship is an award of $2,500 per year for up to four years ($10,000 total value).  These will be awarded on a rolling basis as students are admitted and are guaranteed to those who complete their admission files by May 1.

 

Scholarship Deadline:  We continue to have other competitive scholarships available.  By December 1, students should apply via the ApplyTexas Scholarship application available at www.applytexas.org.  We are only accepting electronic scholarship applications.  The deadline will provide ample time for committee review of eligible applicants prior to award notices in March and April.  Students must also complete their admission application by December 1 to be considered for any of the competitive scholarships.

TCU Texas Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

 

The TCU Texas Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Program is a scholarship program that recognizes young high school age entrepreneurs for their success in business. The award is open to any Texas high school student who has started and managed a business. To be eligible you must be currently enrolled in high school.

What can you win?

Scholarships totaling up to $20,000 may be awarded. The top winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship and five other winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship to apply to any school they choose. If the student attends TCU, the scholarships will double.

Can I apply more than once?

Yes, a student may apply every year, while in high school. All of the winnings are eligible to be doubled if the student attends TCU.

What is the application process?

An application may be submitted by the student entrepreneur, friend, teacher, or mentor, who feels that the youth entrepreneur is worthy of recognition. The application may be completed online at www.tcuyeya.org  or downloaded and sent in hard copy form to TCU. Submissions must be postmarked, or if done electronically, received, no later than November 1. Finalists will be notified by December. Finalists must attend TCU Young Entrepreneurs Days and individually participate in an interview with the judges to be considered for a scholarship award.

The Texas Aggregates Concrete and Association (TACA)

 

The Texas Aggregates Concrete and Association (TACA) will again be sponsoring the annual National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) High School Essay Contest.  The contest is open to Texas High School students who will be age 16-18 at the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year.

 

The winner from Texas will have their entry forwarded to the NRMCA for consideration at the national level.  The winner will be selected from the winning state entries generated from high schools around the country.  He or she will be flown, expenses paid, along with a parent or guardian, to NRMCA’s 2008 convention in Las Vegas, Nevada in March.

 

Industry executives and college/university faculty members with concrete-related backgrounds will judge the entries.  In addition to being NRMCA’s guest at the convention and being introduced at the convention’s awards session, the winner will also receive a scholarship of $5,000 if they enroll for freshman year in a concrete-related curriculum such as the Concrete Industry Management programs offered at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, California State University at Chico, and Arizona State University in Phoenix.  Other eligible programs would include those at Alpena College in Michigan or Rhodes State College in Ohio, or other majors directly related to the concrete industry, such as those for construction materials science/engineering.  Should the winner choose not to enroll in a concrete-related curriculum he or she will receive a $2,000 scholarship for the freshman year at the college of his or her choice.

 

All state entries will receive a certificate of appreciation for entering the contest along with a notification of the winner.  The Texas winner will receive $2,500 to attend a college with a concrete-related curriculum or $1000 for a non-concrete related curriculum from the Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association.

 

The rules are as follows:

o Open to all Texas high school students ages 16-18 at the beginning of the school term.

o An entry form (see attachment…Ms. Schier, counseling secretary will have a copy) must be included with all essays.

o Entries must be typed, double-space and not exceed 600 words.

o Essays will be judged on content and writing ability (grammar, style, clarity, etc.) A judging summary is attached (see Ms. Schier for copy).

o Entries must be postmarked by: November 16, 2007.

 

Possible themes:  Concrete’s benefits to society; how concrete affects the environment; and using concrete to build homes, commercial buildings, bridges and roads.  Essays should demonstrate a student’s awareness of concrete’s role as a building material in homes, commercial buildings, streets and highways, parking lots etc.

The Alamo Chapter Air Force Association

 

 

Once again the Air Force Association of Texas will sponsor an essay contest with monetary awards given in memory of Earle North Parker, a noted industrialist of Ft. Worth.  The state wide winners will receive a total of $4000 in awards.

 

The Air Force Association is an independent, non-profit civilian organization promoting understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of our nation.

 

The essay topic for this year’s contest is:  Part of the Air Force Mission Statement is “Excellence in All We Do”; what does this mean to you?”

 

All Texas high school seniors are eligible to participate in this essay contest.  Each essay should be limited to a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 600 words.  Deadline for submission of the essay, accompanied by the completed Contest Entry Form, is December 15, 2007.

 

After all entries are received, the Alamo Chapter will select our chapter winner, who will receive $500.  Our winning entry will then be forwarded for state competition with the winning entry form each of the 15 Air Force Association Chapters across the state to compete for the $4000 in awards.  The three awards are $2000 for First Place; $1200 for Second Place; and $800 for Third Place.  The winners will be determined and announced in March of 2008.

The National CO-OP Scholarship Program

 

The National Commission for Cooperative Education, on behalf of ten NCCE Partner College and Universities, is pleased to announce and sponsor its SIXTH ANNUAL NATIONAL CO-OP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.  As the largest independently sponsored merit co-op scholarship program in the United States, the National Commission will award one hundred eighty-five merit scholarships of $6,000 each, for a total renewable value of $4,500,000.  These merit co-op scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and community college transfer students who plan to participate in college cooperative education at one of the following NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities.

University of Texas at San Antonio

Honors College Scholarships

 

The UTSA Honors College is offering two scholarship opportunities for outstanding students. 

 

The Presidential Honors Scholarship of $6000, distributed at $1500 per year for up to four years.  These scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of academic merit.  Recipients may combine a Presidential Honors Scholarship with a need-based financial aid packet. 

 

The Terry Foundation, the largest private source of scholarships in Texas, will select 16 incoming freshman at UTSA as Terry Scholars.  The amount of the Terry Scholarships is based on the student’s need, but awards typically average $55,000 over a four-year period.

 

To be a strong candidate for these scholarships, applicants should be ranked in the top 20% of their high school class and should have an SAT-R V +M of 1100 (V+M) or an ACT of 24 or higher.  Applicants for the Terry Scholarship must also have a strong record of leadership and service and have financial need.  Students must be admitted to UTSA to be admitted to the Honors College and to be considered for either the Presidential Honors Scholarship or the Terry Scholarships.  Students apply to UTSA by completing the Texas Common Application available online at www.applytexas.org

 

To apply for a UTSA Presidential Honors Scholarship, students must complete the UTSA Honors College Application, including essay, biographical sketch, recommendation letters, and a high school transcript.  Presidential Honors Scholarship/Honors College applications are available on the web at www.utsa.edu/honors.

Texas Student Housing Scholarship Program-2008

 

Texas Student Housing Authority is a non profit entity of the town of Westlake Texas and is chartered under the Texas Education Authority.  It has offered 1800 scholarships since 1995 to graduates of Texas High Schools. 

 

These are housing scholarships, in the amount of $2,500 per year, offered in our TSH off-campus facilities and are renewable for up to four years to a maximum value of $10,000.  In 2008 TSH intends to offer up to 400 scholarships to graduates in over 1350 Texas High Schools.

 

TSH scholarship applications are available to any graduating senior who is accepted in a Texas college or university in communities in which TSH owns facilities.  There are no limits on the number of qualified applicants from any one high school.  Incoming college freshmen may apply for scholarships in Austin, College Station and Denton.

High School Oratorical Scholarship Program

 

 

Scholarship awards are presented to the three finalists in the Final Round of the National Contest as follows:  1st Place--$18,000, 2nd Place $16,000, 3rd Place--$14,000.

 

Each State Winner who is certified into and participates in the first round of the National Contest will receive a $1,500 scholarship.  Each first round winner who advances to and participates in the second round, but does not advance to the Final Round, will receive an additional $1,500 scholarship to pursue education beyond high school.

 

The scholarships awarded by the National Organization of the American Legion may be used to attend any college or university in the United States.  Funds for the scholarships awarded by the National Organization are provided by the American Legion Life Insurance Fund.

Athletic Scholarships

As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, UIW offers athletic scholarships in a number of men’s and women’s sports.  UIW adheres to NCAA eligibility guidelines and scholarship offers are given at the discretion of the head coach.  If interested in the UIW athletic program, contact the Athletic Office at (210) 829-6050.

 

Performing Arts Scholarships

UIW has a long tradition in the performing arts and recognizes students with extraordinary talents in the areas of art, dance, theater, and music.  Scholarships of varying amounts are available on a limited basis.  Students must contact the designated department for information on auditions and performance dates.

 

 

 

The Career & Technology Association of Texas Scholarships

 

CTE offers 10 $1,000 cash scholarship awards for career and technical education (CTE) students.  The awards are named in honor of outstanding education leaders Myra Hasty and Dr. Pat McLeod.

 

CTAT Student Scholarship Applications are due March 7, 2008. 

 

This scholarship is available to high school students who will be enrolled in postsecondary education during the Fall of 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters.

 

Ten Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded.

 

Fill out the attached application, gather other application materials and send to the CTAT office.  The applications will be scored on scholastic record, CTE activities, letters of recommendation, essay and overall citizenship.

 

The attached application must be postmarked no later than March 7, 2008

 

The recipients of the scholarship will be honored at the CTAT Annual Summer Conference in Houston on July 23, 2008 at the Westin Galleria Houston.

Texas Tech University College of Engineering Scholarship

 

Until January 15, 2008, high school seniors can apply for the Koh Family Engineering Scholarship, $10,000 per year (up to $22,000 per year in combination with other scholarships), for the study of undergraduate engineering at Texas Tech University.  The University expects to award scholarships to as many as six students who will begin their undergraduate study of engineering at Texas Tech with the fall semester of 2008.  We expect to award a similar number of such scholarships each year.

 

The Koh Family Engineering Scholarships are made possible through an endowment of approximately $2.7 million established by the Koh family.  You may obtain a copy of a brochure giving information about the Koh family and about the Koh Family Engineering Scholarships from Ms. Schier, our counselor secretary.

Charles, Lela and Mary Slough Foundation Scholarship

 

This scholarship was established under the Last Will and Testament of Charles Gordon Slough. Bank of America, N.A.  is the trustee of the foundation and Midland College is the Scholarship Administrator.  The scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students to fund their college endeavors.  Students receiving the Slough Scholarship who continue to meet the established criteria may receive an award of $5,000 a year for up to five years or the completion of their Bachelor’s Degree, or a total accumulation of 136 semester hours, whichever comes first.  This scholarship provides its recipients with greater access to the college of their choice and may be transferable if necessary.

Eligible applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a U. TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY

Pacesetter Award for College Excellence (PACE)

 

TLU scholarship that carries a monetary value up to $15,000 per year.

 

Students must meet the initial qualifications of grade point average, class rank and SAT or ACT scores to participate in TLU’s Pacesetter scholarship event.  All qualified applicants are expected to take part in a competitive event on the TLU camps on Sunday, February 17, 2008.  This “Day of Exchange and Excellence” will include an opportunity for each applicant to demonstrate writing skills, interact with faculty as well as current Pacesetter Scholars, and engage in a personal interview.  Each eligible applicant who participates in the campus event is guaranteed the minimum scholarship amount.  Following the event, an selection committee comprised of faculty and administrative staff will evaluate the participants and assign varying scholarship amounts.

 

Application deadline is February 1, 2008.  Students must submit a TLU application and be accepted before this deadline.
