DEBATE EXISTS ONLY IN DEMOCRATIC SOCIETIES, AND NO DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY CAN EXIST WITHOUT DEBATE (UIL Constitution, Section 1001)

We currently have 3 Cross Examination Debate teams. Cross Examination (CX) teams compete on a designated National Forensic League topic in the Texas UIL circuit.

A CX round involves 4 debaters (two teams) normally from different schools. During competition teams take an affirmative or negating stance as stipulated by contest directors. Debaters argue on policy and fact; they rely on their evidence, wit, and organization to attack their opponent and defend their arguments and reasoning. CX teams conduct a lot of thorough research, engage in critical thinking, and learn to find fault in other’s arguments. An effective CX team learns and demonstrates thinking “outside the box”.
