Library Information

The La Vernia High School Library is available for use by students and community members who reside in the La Vernia Independent School District.  High school students are required to present their school ID card for check out of materials and to use the computers.  Other district students may check out materials and use the computers after the student’s parents/guardians complete the Patron Information Form and the Community Computer Acceptable Use Policy Form available at the high school library.  Community members must complete the Patron Information Form and the Community Computer Acceptable Use Policy Form, available at the high school library, to check out materials and use the computers.

The library is available each school day from 7:15 a.m. until 3:15 p.m.  The library is open on Mondays and Thursdays until 7:00 p.m. as part of the extended hours service for students and community members.  The extended hours program correlates with the school calendar.  The library program observes all school holidays and early out days.  Please check the calendar section of this web site for the holidays observed or call [830]-779-2181 extension 3225.

Students may access the library without a pass before and after school; during class time a student must have a pass signed by the class teacher and present the pass to the librarian or library clerk when entering the facility.  Students must pick up the pass signed by the librarian or library clerk when returning to their class.  A sign-in notebook is located on the circulation desk for students to sign in and sign out times of library access.  The notebook assists with patron usage statistics and determining when a student was in the library.

All library patrons are required to follow the library rules on the use of computers.  Failure to follow library and school rules, may result in the loss of the computer privileges and possible disciplinary actions.  Library computers are used for research only.  Research excludes surfing the Internet for fun, playing games and E-mailing.  Student patrons must place the school ID card beside the computer.

Library patrons may check out two items.  Books and audiocassettes are checked out for 2 weeks and may be renewed for 2 more weeks.  Videotapes and DVD’s are overnight check outs.  To re-check loaned materials, the items must be brought to the library.  Reference books do not circulate outside of the library.

A fine of five cents per school day is charged for overdue materials.  The fine stops accumulating when the overdue material is returned.  No fine is charged when a students has an absence.  An absence slip must be presented when the items are returned.  Library overdue notices are issued weekly.

A copy machine is available for research copying.  All copyright rules must be followed.  There is a charge of five cents for each page. A library student assistant or library employee will make copies for all library patrons.  Printers are available for printing research and assignments.  Again, there is a five cents per page charge. The printers are located behind the circulation desk and a library assistant or library employee will retrieve the copies for all patrons.

Library patrons are required to go about their business quietly in the library.  Noise control is of the utmost importance for efficient use of the facility.  Backpacks and oversized bags are to be placed in the backpack shelving area of the library.  Food and drink are not permitted in the library reading area, lobby, study rooms or microfiche/computer room.
