Library Information
The La Vernia High School Library is
available for use by students and community members who reside in the La Vernia
Independent School District. High school
students are required to present their school ID card for check out of
materials and to use the computers.
Other district students may check out materials and use the computers
after the student’s parents/guardians complete the Patron Information Form and
the Community Computer Acceptable Use Policy Form available at the high school
library. Community members must complete
the Patron Information Form and the Community Computer Acceptable Use Policy
Form, available at the high school library, to check out materials and use the
computers.
The
library is available each school day from 7:15 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. The library is open on Mondays and Thursdays
until
Students may access the library
without a pass before and after school; during class time a student must have a
pass signed by the class teacher and present the pass to the librarian or
library clerk when entering the facility.
Students must pick up the pass signed by the librarian or library clerk
when returning to their class. A sign-in
notebook is located on the circulation desk for students to sign in and sign
out times of library access. The
notebook assists with patron usage statistics and determining when a student
was in the library.
All library patrons are required to
follow the library rules on the use of computers. Failure to follow library and school rules,
may result in the loss of the computer privileges and possible disciplinary
actions. Library computers are used for
research only. Research excludes surfing
the Internet for fun, playing games and E-mailing. Student patrons must place the school ID card
beside the computer.
Library patrons may check out two
items. Books and audiocassettes are
checked out for 2 weeks and may be renewed for 2 more weeks. Videotapes and DVD’s are overnight check
outs. To re-check loaned materials, the
items must be brought to the library.
Reference books do not circulate outside of the library.
A fine of five cents per school day is
charged for overdue materials. The fine
stops accumulating when the overdue material is returned. No fine is charged when a students has an
absence. An absence slip must be
presented when the items are returned.
Library overdue notices are issued weekly.
A copy machine is available for
research copying. All copyright rules
must be followed. There is a charge of
five cents for each page. A library student assistant or library employee will
make copies for all library patrons.
Printers are available for printing research and assignments. Again, there is a five cents per page charge.
The printers are located behind the circulation desk and a library assistant or
library employee will retrieve the copies for all patrons.
Library patrons are required to go
about their business quietly in the library.
Noise control is of the utmost importance for efficient use of the
facility. Backpacks and oversized bags
are to be placed in the backpack shelving area of the library. Food and drink are not permitted in the
library reading area, lobby, study rooms or microfiche/computer room.
