To parents of students with asthma:
In accordance with legislation, HB 1688, which passed during the 2001 Texas Legislative Session, students are allowed to self-administer asthma medications while at school or school functions with written permission from parent/guardian and physician. In order for this to be done, a Medication Requirement Form must be completed and signed by both parent/guardian and physician and submitted to the school every year. Although students are allowed to carry an inhaler, we request that a second inhaler be provided for emergency situations.
